April 10, 2014: Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Strout visited Wilton Library to discuss her popular book, The Burgess Boys. A New York Times bestseller and named one of the Best Books of the Year by The Washington Post, NPR and Good Housekeeping, The Burgess Boys is a captivating story of two deeply human protagonists whose struggles and triumphs will resonate with readers long after they turn the final page. Olive Kitteridge, a novel in stories, won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize, was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a New York Times Bestseller. Elizabeth Strout's earlier novels are Abide With Me, a national bestseller, and Amy and Isabelle, also a New York Times Bestseller. Strout has been a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize in London. Ms. Strout was interviewed by book discussion leader Susan Boyar.

The Burgess Boys Longlisted for the Bailey's Women's Prize 2014

Elizabeth's The Burgess Boys has been longlisted for the UK's Bailey's Women's Prize 2014 (formerly the Orange Prize). 

Helen Fraser, Chair of Judges, says: “This is a fantastic selection of books of the highest quality – intensely readable, gripping, intelligent and surprising – that you would want to press on your friends, and the judges have been doing just that.”

The judges must now whittle these 20 books to six, before choosing an overall winner to be announced on 4th June 2014.
